Anti-racism workshop and members’ meeting

From November 27 to 29, 2020, we held our second project weekend this year, again online due to the corona pandemic. On Friday evening, we exchanged information about the current status of the departments and the project in Jamaica.

anti racism workshop with Mahir from Vielfaltsprojekte

We used Saturday for an anti-racism workshop with Mahir Türkmen from Vielfaltsprojekte. The workshop was meant for us as a personal introduction and reflection with the topic of anti-racism and thus Mahir worked with us on different forms of discrimination and especially racism, its history, modes of action and forms. Small group work and thought experiments helped us to understand that we as white-positioned activists at MoG -Jamaika have to stand firmly against racism and discrimination in order to achieve a more diverse association. The workshop with Mahir was a lot of fun and inspired us to think and continue. We are already planning the next anti-racism workshop, this time perhaps in the context of voluntary services.

members’ meeting 2020

On Sunday, the annual general meeting took place, in which the board reported on the current status of the project and the association. In addition, two minor changes to the statutes were voted on.

Afterwards, all active members came together in a plenum to discuss open questions and to exchange ideas about the anti-racism workshop. Thereby, the desire arose to further and more intensively deal with the topic of racism and to question one’s own privileges in a power-critical way.
