Perhaps you have already noticed that we could not restart the project work in September due to a lack of volunteers. Now the board of MoG – Jamaica has decided to pause the project – also independent of the volunteer situation – for the time being. The reason for this is the security situation in Jamaica: In the last few weeks we have been dealing a lot with the security situation in Jamaica, and due to very contradictory information about the security situation we are not able to assess the current situation. This raises the question whether the project as we had planned it for the project start is safe for the MoGs and also for the students in the project. We would like to address this question in the long term and develop criteria that will also form a basis for assessing the safety situation in the project environment in the future. There are still some open questions here, including: Who is considering these criteria? Where do we get reliable information to assess the fulfillment of the criteria? etc.? We realize that this news is a damper for now, especially after all the energy we all put into starting the project. Nevertheless, we hope that we as a project team will also be able to deal with this and put our energy into answering these security questions in order to create the most sustainable framework possible for our project.
